I am Said Yusuf, born in Yemen, but have been living in and out of Finland for the last 18 years.
I have worked as free lance translator (from Finish to Somali,Arabic
and English as well), as a cultural guide and adviser in Caisa
(international cultural center) as a consultant of Somali and Arabic
cultures, volunteers and volunteered as youth and children leader for
many organization, and as an immigrant activist.
As a candidate for the city council of Espoo and hopefully a future
member of the city council of Espoo (which, as of today does not have a
member who have an immigrant background –who could bring a new vision
and outlook to the city council), I want to achieve the followings and
as such it is my platform.
1- A multicultural Espoo, where people of different background and the
majority resident of Espoo will meet and interact, that is why I
proposed to have an international culture center a la Caisal in
Helsinki-where immigrant as well as Finns will show cast their
cultures, food and arts to each other,therefore increases the chances
of making contacts on a personal level.
2- To increase Finnish classes for foreigners, as it will helps
immigrants to integrate faster into the society, which will farther
help new immigrants of finding jobs and be part of his new country.
3- To take into consideration youth needs-not to over look their
needs- to decrease youth isolation. And to increase dialogue between
the youth of the majority resident of Espoo and the youth of immigrant
background.
4- The commitment to work on creating a healthy, sustainable and
green city, and the focus on building a green and ecologically sound
apartments and houses.
5- To lower the prices of transportation –as I believe they are way
too expensive- it will increase ridership and the need to drive your
own car will therefore lessen-which is great for the environment-.
6- To have sisterly friendship with more cities in Asia and Africa, where we could exchange ideas.
